Peter Jackson's
Nativity Play and Crib
A 'Gothic' theatre ready to assemle complete with scenery, characters, and text
Designed by Peter Jackson
"A hundred and fity years ago," says the back page of this toy theater lover's dream, "around the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign, the cardboard theatre was perhaps the most played with toy inbritain... They could be bought either hand-coloured or uncoloured
This large, impressive toy theater (12" x 17" wonderfully heavy-stock sheets) is ready to assemble no cutting or gluing required. Detach the scored piecesthey ingeniously interlcok to form a sturdy toy theaterand you're ready to summon your audience.
This theater is rich in color and playful decoration. Drawn in a manner reminiscent of luminous stained-glass, it simply glows. As if you wouldn't just be happy to have this luminous stage, Peter Jackson has populated it with, besides the usual Dramatis Personae, fantastical creatures that lurk about, like the puffing dragon hiding under the proscenium pit!
I would be happy just to be looking at this 3-dimensional little jewel, but, of course, the play's the thing, right? Not to worry: there's "A basic working text for a Toy Theatre production of a nativity play which is adapted from The Second Shephereds' Play, part of the Wakefield Cycle of mediaeval Miracle Plays, first performed a little over 500 years ago."
With Mack, Gill, Angel, King, Mary, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd Shepherds there are plenty of speaking parts here to make this production a family affair.
